We aim to deliver a thorough comprehensive assessment in around 4 - 6 weeks of receipt of a letter of instruction. Any issues around risk will be thoroughly assessed and addressed. As with all our assessments, the report will be child- focused and give firm recommendations.
Special Guardianship Orders are an alternate way of giving a child a permanent placement when adoption is not the best solution. For example, it may be that the child is older and still identifies with its birth family, making the legal break of adoption inappropriate.
The main difference between special guardianship and fostering is that it gives the holder of the order 'parental responsibility' of the child and that the child will not be looked after by the Local Authority. Support and financial assistance can be built into the granting of such an order.
The assessment for a special guardian is similar to that of fostering in that many aspects of the personal history of the applicant needs to be addressed, as do the individual needs of the child. A recommendation is then made around whether the placement would be in the child's best interests.
The cost of a special guardianship assessment will depend on the complexity of the individual case and the geographical location of the client. Please contact us for a full quotation. As a guide, the hourly work rate is £30 and £25 for travelling time.
